Apple is reportedly preparing a brand-new operating system that stands apart from iOS, macOS, and watchOS. This system is being developed specifically for the next generation of smart home devices and carries the codename Charismatic. According to Bloomberg’s tech journalist Mark Gurman, the operating system is expected to make its debut in 2026 alongside a dedicated Apple device focused on the smart home ecosystem.

Charismatic OS in Detail

Charismatic, also referred to as homeOS, is built with a different approach than Apple’s existing platforms. Its main interface combines elements of tvOS and watchOS, featuring hexagonal grid layouts, widgets, and customizable clock faces similar to those found on the Apple Watch. It is also designed to be lighter and more responsive for use in home environments.

One of its most important features is multi-user support. With the help of a front-facing camera, the system can recognize individual users and adjust the display according to personal preferences. Each family member will be able to access personalized content such as music recommendations, calendar events, and private notes. This marks Apple’s attempt to deliver an ambient computer experience that feels more personal and adaptive inside the home.

Devices Powered by the New OS

Charismatic OS is set to debut first on Apple’s smart home hub scheduled for release in 2026. The device, known internally as J490, is expected to feature a 7-inch display. Its functions will include serving as a central control hub for smart devices, enabling video calls, playing music, and running built-in apps. Physically, the device is said to resemble a cross between a HomePod and a Google Nest Hub.

In 2027, Apple is expected to expand the use of this operating system to a tabletop robot. This device will include a display mounted on a motorized arm that can swivel and follow the user’s line of sight. Its main focus will be enhanced interaction with Siri, which will become more expressive and may even include digital avatars to create a livelier form of communication.

Siri Integration and AI Features

Apple highlights Siri as the primary control method for Charismatic OS. However, touch input will remain available as an additional option. Artificial intelligence will also play a central role, enabling Siri to better understand context and provide more natural responses. This aligns with Apple’s broader strategy of integrating Apple Intelligence into its product lineup.

Several built-in apps are already being prepared, including Calendar, Camera, Music, Reminders, and Notes. These applications will be optimized for shared household use, ensuring the OS functions not only as an entertainment hub but also as a productivity tool for families.

Competing in the Smart Home Market

Apple’s move to launch Charismatic OS is seen as a strategic effort to strengthen its position in the smart home market, currently dominated by Amazon with Alexa and Google with Nest. With this new OS, Apple aims to deliver tighter integration with its ecosystem, including HomeKit, iCloud, and AI-driven services.

Industry observers believe this is Apple’s answer to growing demand for smart home devices that are not only intelligent but also capable of delivering personalized experiences. By introducing Charismatic OS, Apple is expanding its influence beyond iPhones, iPads, and Macs, signaling its intention to set new standards in smart living.

Projected Launch Timeline

If Apple stays on track, the smart home hub running Charismatic OS will be unveiled in 2026, followed by the tabletop robot in 2027. This roadmap shows Apple’s long-term commitment to the smart home industry.

Charismatic OS is more than a diversification move. It represents Apple’s long-term strategy to create a connected, AI-powered, and highly personal smart home ecosystem. By doing so, Apple has the potential to spark a new trend in the global smart home industry.
